In 2014 Mirthe Dokter (Dutch) graduated from ArtEZ School of the Arts, music theatre department, with a minor in Fine Arts. After her degree, she worked as a theatre maker, visual artist and singer. She developed herself as a hybrid maker, using various disciplines. As a trans disciplinary maker, she combines painting, ceramics, analogue projections, film, movement, research and singing. Mirthe puts a spotlight on hidden subjects in film, exhibitions or on stage. The visitor is always part of the performance, as participating viewer or maker. In her work she looks for collaboration with scientists and with marginalized social groups. Mirthe made the following performances on various European stages: ‘Leatherback’ (a solo about a sea turtle conservation team in Ghana), ‘ ‘De Balts’ (2018 scientific comedies on animal behavior with Tim Hammer and Feikes Huis/KASKO and evolutionary biologists) and ‘Kijk, ik zoek!’ (2016, a live painted picture book about a refugee). At the moment you can see ‘STRIJD’ (2022, activating visual performance about how to protect your territory with maker Tim Hammer and co-producers Feikes Huis, KASKO, D:DNA). Her performances take place at Oerol, Zwarte Cross, Noorderzon, H80, het Grachtenfestival, Over het IJ, Boze Wolf, het International Pop Arts Festival, Recyclart Brussel, Boze Wolf Belgie and in theatres like Bellevue Amsterdam, Plein Theater Amsterdam, Lux Nijmegen, Theater aan de Rijn Arnhem, De Lievekamp Oss, Concordia Enschede, GC De Kroon a.o.
In 2018 she won the young makers price/Puppet International and in 2019 she won the Ruth van der Steenhoven-prijs/NVP-Unima. Since 2020 Mirthe works on her social-artistic installation 'het volk der introverten' with several museums. An artwork of hundreds of heads made in clay, about introversion in human and society. This artwork was exhibited at Museum Arnhem, Museum Concordia, and several small galleries. Since 2018 Mirthe is working on an artistic research about a sea turtle conservation team in West-Africa. Together with filmmaker Rian van den Boom and scientist Marjolijn Christianen she made her first documentary about this research. Mirthe will exchange the documentary with the people in Ghana/West-Africa in July 2022. She will continue her marine ecology research, working on part two of the documentary in animation, with film production house Graphoui in Brussels. She connects the docu with conservation- and nature associations, such as research groups, WWF and the international sea turtle symposium. She calls herself an ecology-artist: researching ecology issues in an artistic way, together with scientists, using artistic storytelling. Since 2022 Mirthe works on a panorama painting of 100 meters about the feeling of getting used to a new place/situation. In 2022 her documentary 'LEATHERBACK' won the prize for best Non-Fiction short (Het Gouden Hert) at Go Short Arnhem with a special mention from Gelders Doek. Her animation 'European' won the prize for best visual story at the international literature festival ILFU Utrecht. Besides her own work as an art maker, Mirthe worked as a performer for many theatregroups and vocal ensembles, such as singer/maker at Nederlands Kamerkoor NKK NXT 18/19, singer at SWARA vocal ensemble Brussels, Performer/singer at Muziekthater de Plaats Arnhem, vocal leader at Inclusive Theater Babel Rotterdam, OT Rotterdam, Performances with Rieks Swarte and Javier Lopez Pinon, Visuals for concerts with Mike Boddé, guest in TV-items with Podium Witteman NTR, Soloist Matteus Passion, performer/maker at Jeugdtheater KWATTA, Teacher at University of Wageningen cross-over art-science.

Mirthe Dokter (1992) studeerde in 2014 af aan de opleiding muziektheater aan het ArtEZ Conservatorium te Arnhem en deed

Ze is een transdisciplaire maker- en performer die zich richt op zang, theater en beeldende kunst. In haar werk vloeiendisciplines over in elkaar. Mirthe ontwikkeld projecten waarin disciplines worden gecombineerd, participatie een plek heeft en thema's als ecologie, introversie storytelling naar voren komen. In haar werk werkt zij samen met instellingen als Museum Arnhem, KWATTA, Muziektheater de Plaats, Feikes Huis, Werkplaats Diepenheim, Common Ground Common Sense en het Nederlands Kamerkoor, Vocal Ensemble SWARA Brussels, Atelier Graphoui Brussels, University of Wageningen. Mirthe heeft verschillende beeldende muziektheaterproducties ontwikkeld, onder andere’ IK WOU’ met teksten van Toon Tellegen in 2015 en ‘Kijk, ik zoek!’ (6+), een live geschilderd reuzen prentenboek op muziek over een vreemdeling, in 2016 als jonge maker van het International Pop Arts Festival/Feikes huis. ‘De Balts’ (8+), een waltz maar dan voor dieren, i.s.m. theatermaker Tim Hammer en Kameroperahuis en biologen van de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. ‘LEATHERBACK’, een solo performance in animatie en zang aan de hand van een reis door Ghana. Hiermee won Mirthe de Jongemakers Prijs van festival Puppet International Meppel in 2018 en de Ruth van der Steenhoven Prijs in 2019. En voorstelling ‘STRIJD’ met Tim Hammer en in co-productie met Feikes Huis, KASKO en D:DNA over terretoriaal gedrag bij mens- en dier. Deze voorstelling draait momenteel op festivals. Voorstellingen waren te zien op onder andere Oerol, Zwarte Cross, Noorderzon, H80, het Grachtenfestival, Over het IJ, Boze Wolf, het International Pop Arts Festival, Recyclart Brussel, Boze Wolf Belgie en in theaters als Bellevue Amsterdam, Plein Theater Amsterdam, Lux Nijmegen, Theater aan de Rijn Arnhem, De Lievekamp Oss, Concordia Enschede, GC De Kroon e.a.
Mirthe is jaarlijks te zien als solo sopraan in het Mattheus Passion, een bewerking voor jeugd van Muziektheater de Plaats. Sinds 2018 is Mirthe onderdeel van het vocaal ensemble NKK NXT 18/19, een ensemble voortgekomen uit een talentontwikkelingstraject van het Nederlands Kamerkoor.
Andere producties die de revue zijn gepasseerd: in 2016 speelde Mirthe als mimespeelster in de opera ‘The mother of the black winged dreams’ van Dutch National Opera Academy onder regie van Javier Lopez Pinogn met scenografie van Rieks Swarte. Als poppenspeelster was Mirthe in 2017 te zien in ‘De betoveringen’ (5+) van OT Rotterdam/Gerrit Timmers. Mirthe werkte in samenwerking met Tim Hammer aan een langlopend traject als muzikaal leider bij het Rotterdamscentrumvoortheater (spelers met- en zonder verstandelijke beperking) samen met regisseur Paul Röttger.

Daarnaast probeert Mirthe in haar werk een koppeling te maken met de wetenschap. Dat zie je terug in haar voorstellingen met theatermaker Tim Hammer over de relatie tussen mens en dier. Dit resulteerde eerder in voorstelling ‘De Balts’ en ‘STRIJD’ met Tim Hammer en Kasko/Feikes Huis. Ook is haar interesse in natuur en wetenschap terug te zien in een langlopend project naar het leefgebied van zeeschildpadden in West-Afrika. Dit onderzoek resulteerde in januari 2022 in de docufillm ‘De geharde Rug’ in samenwerking met filmmaker Rian van de Boom en marine ecoloog dr. M. Christianen (WUR). In 2022 won documentaire 'De Geharde Rug' de prijs voor beste non-fictie short of festival Go Short Arnhem (Het Gouden Hert) met een speciale vermelding van Gelders Doek. Animatie 'Erocean' won de prijs voor beste beeldverhaal tijdens het internationale literatuurfestival ILFU Utrecht.
Sinds 2020 werkt Mirthe aan het groeiende kunstwerk ‘Het Volk der Introverten’. Een kunstwerk van hoofdjes van klei met ogen dicht, geboetseerd door vele participanten. Met dit kunstwerk wil zij een podium geven aan het introvert in de mens en in de maatschappij. Dit project is ontstaan met ondersteuning van Museum Arnhem en reist langs verschillende plekken.
Momenteel is Mirthe met haar atelier gevestigd in Brussel, als tweede vertrekhaven. Sinds ze in dit atelier is gevestigd is ze begonnen met het schilderen van een schilderij van 100 meter over het begrip wennen, getiteld ‘Het Grote Wennen’ – een gecomponeerd gevoelspanorama.
